From modest beginnings in 1979 Top Security has grown to become one of Ireland’s leading providers of security services and products.

We’ve been both an innovator and a trendsetter in the Irish security market always investing heavily in people, technology and facilities.

Top has always been progressive and expansionist in it’s approach.  In 1993 we entered the South African market and are now well established as a leading player within South Africa.

Our commitment to being a leader within the industry, always seeking excellence and making use of the best technologies is a cornerstone of the Top ethos.

Some key milestones over the past 25 years which evidence this commitment are as follows:

1979

Top is formally launched in Dublin offering static, mobile and keyholding services.  Success was achieved in the early years through a strong commitment towards customer service and a personalised approach.

1984

Customer demand was just one of the reasons why geographical expansion was the next logical step for Top.

In 1984 Top Security Cork was established also providing static, mobile and keyholding services.

1986

Top decided to enter the alarm monitoring business and acquired R.M.E. central control station, a company which was currently active in the alarm monitoring business.

The company was relocated to premises in Harcourt Rd., Dublin and we commenced offering alarm monitoring services throughout the Republic of Ireland under the name Top Communications.

1988

Top Security Dublin relocated to a purpose built facility in Kimmage in Dublin.  The addition of Top Communications (R.M.E.) plus growth in our security business necessitated a larger facility and more resources.

Within this facility we constructed a central control station which was the first in Ireland to be formally approved by the National Standards Authority as complying with the IS 228 – Irish standard for alarm monitoring centers.

1989

Up to this the Dept. of Communications in Ireland did not issue frequencies for alarm monitoring by radio.

Top recognised that despite there being an obvious requirement the case needed to be properly made to both the Dept. of Communications and the Dept. of Justice in order to get the policy changed.

Top decided to embrace the challenge.  It was a lengthy process but we were ultimately successful in being granted the first radio monitoring license in Ireland.

As a result today all companies in the alarm monitoring industry in Ireland can apply for such a license.

1990

The growth in our alarm monitoring business plus our commitment to a personalised approach were the key motivations behind our decision to build an independent alarm monitoring centre in Cork.

This was completed with a view to providing services to our customers in the Munster region.

Today Top Security is the only security company in Ireland with 2 independent certified alarm monitoring centres.

1993

Having decided to look at opportunities outside Ireland we carried out feasibility studies in the United Kingdom and South Africa.  Our preference was for an English speaking market.

The result was a decision to enter the South African market which we did by acquiring an existing business, Proactive Security Force (pty) Ltd. Proactive was primarily providing security services to large corporate clients.

1995

In keeping with our commitment to maintaining the highest standards Top applied for and was granted its ISO 9001 certification.

1996

Top acquired its second South African company, Bedford Patrols (pty) Ltd. which was in the alarm monitoring and response business.

This meant that we were now providing a similar range of services in South Africa as we were in Ireland.

1999

Top Security relocated to a brand new purpose built hi-tech facility in Ballymount adjacent to the M50 motorway.

2000

Top Security Cork also relocated to a brand new purpose built facility in Frankfield close to Cork Airport.

2002

Top established a separate division to provide I.T. security services under the name Topsec Technology.

Now based in Calmount Park, Ballymount, Dublin Topsec offers a suite of I.T. security monitoring and risk management services.  Increased security risks posed by e-mail and internet make it a natural progression for traditional security companies if they wish to remain at the cutting edge.

For this reason top has set up Ireland’s first security monitoring centre for  I.T. infrastructures.
